Today I want to share the amazing truth of the grace we have been given in Jesus Christ. I will share with you how you can “Kiss Guilt Good-Bye for Good!”
Have you ever experienced the slavery of guilt, condemnation and shame?
Have you ever made a mistake, done something stupid, or been foolish?
If you are human than I know you have! We all have. In our sinful flesh we all have been enemies of God and done things that are not pleasing to Him. But….
I share about my journey in my book. I trusted Christ as my Savior as a little girl but struggled for years with condemnation that was rooted in my own sins, wounds and abuse. I am passionate about the core message behind Radiant Purpose, which is the Gospel.
Helping women come to know their identity and purpose is my passion! In Christ, we have been given a new identity and purpose that is stain free! Too often there has been a teaching in the Body of Christ where people attempt to clean up the outside and experience transformation inside.
God works in the reverse. He cleanses us from the inside-out through JESUS!
In Christ, we are pure and spotless. It is not rooted in ourselves, but in Christ.
The problem is when we allow the searing lies of condemnation to fuel our thoughts instead of walking in the glorious freedom that has been gifted to us.
So many women struggle with this but we need to continue to share with one another the truth.
In Jesus Christ, we have been given staggering promises of spectacular freedom!
Did you know that you can be free from all condemnation no matter what you have done in your past?
This is not a feel good idea for the future. Oh no, my friend this is based on Truth. It is rooted and grounded in the Person of Jesus Christ. Because of His miraculous death, burial and resurrection we get to become beneficiaries of His love, mercy and freedom! Right now! Not just in heaven, but today!
This is truth that we need to receive daily, live for and share with others regularly!
So how do you let go of guilt? I will share 5 ways for you to kiss guilt good-bye for good from Romans 8.
1. To Let Go of Guilt for Good, Accept That There is No Condemnation for Those Who Are In Christ Jesus.
Romans 8:1 says, “There is therefore now, no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (ESV)”
If you have truly placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, trusting His death and His resurrection for all your sins, you are free from condemnation. This promise is not for the future, but it is a promise for right now, wherever you are at.
This is good news! How many times do you replay past mistakes or failures in your mind? If you do this, know that it is time to stop. Recognize that the enemy of your soul wants you to live in condemnation.
Merriam-Webster defines condemnation as, “a statement or expression of very strong and definite criticism or disapproval.”
Do you know that because you are in Christ, God is not mad at you? He actually likes you and loves you deeply! He wants relationship with you!
Many believers struggle with condemnation because they are believing lies. When we sin it does grieve the Lord and we need to come to Him to confess what we’ve done so He can cleanse us. Then move forward. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
2. To Let Go of Guilt for Good, Accept the Law of the Spirit.
Romans 8:2-4 says, “For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”
The law of the Spirit equals delightful freedom. We are freed because of Christ and His payment for us. Our sin has been paid for and condemned! We get to be free because of Jesus. We get to live according to the laws and rules of heaven. The law of sin and death does not apply.
Yes there are consequences for sin, but please accept that God is in the business of taking sinners; wounded, broken, people and He transforms them.
He changes us! It is truly amazing. You are not merely a sinner saved by grace.
You are being transformed into the image of Christ. You and I are new creations in Christ. We are whole and redeemed! We are brand new. We are no longer to walk plagued and strangled by darkness or our sins, but we are to live with boldness and mind-blowing resolve!
3. To Let Go of Guilt for Good, Live According to the Spirit.
Romans 8:5 “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.”
You and I are to live according to the Spirit! Are you in the daily habit of asking the Holy Spirit what He wants for your life?
Do you consult the Father, the Son and the Spirit for wisdom, direction and guidance? Do you seek His plans for your life or merely your own desires?
Do you live for the approval of others or do you have clarity on the voice of the Holy Spirit?
Warning: living according to the Spirit is in direct opposition to our flesh! It is also in opposition to the world and the plans of men.
The Holy Spirit is active and alive. He actually has wisdom, counsel, insights and guidance to give us for every area of our lives. He is ALIVE in us as followers of Jesus. He is our Helper! That means when we have needs, we can find what we need from Him.
Do you know that all the love, joy and peace you need can be found in the Spirit?
He is overflowing with blessings, benefits, joys and love that are endless. He wants to fill us up with all of who Jesus is. Everything good, pure, lovely and wonderful that you can imagine, God is.
4. To Let Go of Guilt for Good, Set Your Mind on Things of the Spirit.
Romans 8:6-8 says, “For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God” (ESV).
What are you thinking about the most? Where do your thoughts go? Do you ponder your sins and failures? Do you worry about whether people like you? Do you worry about the future? Do you allow fears, frustrations and the problems of the world to consume your mind?
All of those things are of the flesh and end in death! Our minds are stunning gifts from God. But they are also where Satan attacks us the most. There is an incredible battle going on in our thoughts.
When our minds are focused on the Spirit and His ways there is LIFE AND PEACE!
Are you experiencing life and peace in your thoughts? You can! You can know true wholeness, joy, love, grace, and more that is all rooted in the Holy Spirit. We were made for it.
You and I were made to experience life everlasting and joy eternal!
5. To Let Go of Guilt for Good, Know That the Same Spirit That Raised Christ from the Dead Will Give Life to Your Body.
Romans 8: 9-11 says, “You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you” (ESV).
We will live for eternity! The Holy Spirit lives in us and because of that we will experience life forever. This is wonderful to consider and think about. This should give us boldness to live lives of daring faith.
We are in the Spirit and we belong to Jesus Christ. The promise in these verses is that the Holy Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead will also give life to our bodies through the Spirit.
This is a promise for the future, but it also is a promise for today!
Meditating on these truths will empower you to kiss condemnation good-bye for good!
You are beloved. You are cherished. You are loved. You are accepted. You have been given a precious gift that does not include carrying the guilt and weight of the past so, say good-bye today!
